OK, so, obviously, in order to produce a topic map like
the one we just saw, under the covers there has to be a
way to make our knowledge of which things are being
talked about, and where they are being talked about,
explicit.
A problem statement
- When "semantically integrating" information, how to know when there are multiple talkings about the same thing? And...
- How to facilitate the exploitation of such knowledge?
- Intelligence Community: "co-referencing" (a problem)
- Library Community: "co-location" (a goal)
- Topic Maps: How to view knowledge in a way that facilitates the integration of diverse, independently-created knowledge about the integration of diverse, independently-created knowledge.
"Subject reifier uniqueness" (an illusion to be facilitated).
