This conference was very rich, with three simultaneous tracks, and keen competition for the speaking slots in each track. I could not attend even the majority of the sessions, much less to wrap them all up in a closing keynote. Instead, I attempted to frame the Topic Maps paradigm as part of the story of civilization, and to make projections about the future of that same story -- projections in which topic mapping can be seen to have played a helpful and perhaps even formative role.
(The "surprises" were gifts and public recognitions of the many unique and significant contributions of Steve Pepper to the field of Topic Maps. These recognitions closed the conference.)
