There has been an annual conference on Topic Maps in Norway every year since 2003. The conference emphasizes the experiences of actual users of topic maps and their service providers, as distinct from theorists, standardizers, product designers, etc. (Conferences for the latter include Extreme Markup Languages and Topic Maps Research and Applications.)
This was the first year that Topic Maps Norway was promoted as an international conference. There were several hundred participants, and every continent was represented. ISO Subcommittee 34 chose to co-locate a meeting there, as well. (Subcommittee 34's Working Group 3, "Information Association", is responsible for the Topic Maps International Standard, ISO 13250.)
